Poetic Reflections by Barry Fletcher
Obama, by Presidential Decree
By Barry Fletcher
March, 2010
President Obama signed 42 Executive Orders to this date,
He didn't need permission from the House or Senate so he didn't wait.
Just in office for the third day,
He ordered the shut-down of Guantanamo Bay.
The Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was signed into law,
Equal pay for women was in his heart, that's what we saw.
Obama signs a $787 billion economic recovery bill,
That didn't sit so well with GOP on the Hill.
They've never seen a man like Barack handle U.S. crisis like this before,
There's a new sheriff in town, and he's drawn a finish line for the Iraq war.
He put Stem-Cell Research back in action for goodness sake,
Gave 95% of American working families a tax break.
President Obama opened up talks with Muslim nations,
"No more torture" is mantra for the U.S. in this situation.
He's for environmentally responsible products, technology and clean gas,
There's so much more he wants to accomplish if the law makers would get off their ass.
The White House Urban Affairs office plans to strengthen U.S. cities,
"Don't Ask Don't Tell" is out, now let's get down to the real nitty gritty.
He's strengthening the HBCUs and giving tax credits to offset tuition costs,
Gave $15 billion to start or grow your own small business ...boss.
He's reducing text messaging while driving,
Also, extending unemployment payments while jiving.
He has strengthened the Department of Veterans Affairs,
Extended health care coverage to low income children, oh yeah!
There has never been another President as nimble, quick and as smart as he.
This is truly a Nobel Peace Prize-worthy presidency.

The State of the Union Address
President Obama is still far more popular than members of Congress,
He showed some pugnacious flashes in the primetime address.
The chamber seemed cold as the questions unfold,
How long should America put its future on hold?
Obama has signs of greatness so Republicans are mad as hell.
But now the responsibility to govern is on the opposition as well.
Saying NO to everything may sound hip,
But, it’s not affording the American people good leadership.
100 years ago politicians made tough decisions without delay,
This is why we live such a luxurious lifestyle today.
Jobs, the new mantra … the #1 focus for 2010,
If we could just open up the gridlock of the partisan.
We have a 1.35 trillion dollar deficit upon us,
But the real deficit we face is better known as trust.
All Americans agree we need a first class education,
If we’re going to remain the greatest of all nations.
No one should go broke for choosing to go to college,
It’s an American right to have access to knowledge.
The President had a tough tone, a tougher year;
And even a tougher time keeping the Independents ear.
“USA-USA-USA”, the new Haitian cry for a joyful process.
A fifteen day survivor left for dead underneath that concrete-steel mess.
Health-care reform is now under the rubble too;
But I heard him say “We don’t quit. I don’t quit. Let’s seize this moment to start anew.”

Christmas at the White House
by Barry Fletcher December, 2009
Oprah will sit down with the president for “Christmas at the White House”
Not a creature will be stirring on the 13th, not even Bo or the White House mouse.
The daytime inspiration Queen and ABC are hosting this prime time special program,
First interview with the President maybe her last prime-time show, is why you should give a damn.
Did you know a Va. couple crashed the first State Dinner?
Secret Service got some “splaining” to do about how they let them enter.
As we wait for Obama’s Afghan decision,
The Democrats and Republicans widen their division.
Nine thousand Marines will be the first to depart,
One thousand Army trainers will follow to do their part.
No one is happy about sending more troops to this war,
We’re still trying to figure out what we’re there for.
Senate Democrats voted to bring health-care bill to the floor,
Caucus remains bitterly divided over public options and more.
17.5 percent of labor force now unemployed, looking for work is their mission,
Contemplating Cash for Clunkers, --that new household edition.
Lenders need a push to help homeowners with loans or lower their rate,
Can the world think globally and save the riches of the sea before it’s too late?
Merry Christmas, prosperous New Year … “Hail to the Chief!” no matter how much they say he’s failing.
He’s much better than who the GOP has on deck while they're trailing,
She’s bad for the republicans and bad for everyone else … I’m talking about that rogue name Palin.
She doesn’t seem to want to go away as we wish she would,
Take time out to send up a prayer for the fallen soldiers' families of Fort Hood.
Hallelujah!!!

The Prize and The President
by Barry Fletcher November, 2009
The prize and the President, should I say more, Y'all act like you ain't seen a Nobel Peace Prize winner before. The honor gives our new leader
a measure of prestige on the world stage, The Pres said he was surprised and humbled by the award while grumpy conservatives threw their hands up in rage. Health-care reform should have a public option
if they consider the polls' lead, There's a strong consensus for reform
according to Harry Reid.
We need more green jobs, green economy, green government, green seeds, Mainstream has given the green light to medical marijuana, imagine that ... green weed.
As U.S. forces in Afghanistan endure the deadliest month
of the 8 year old war,
Obama wants to take his time to get it right
and not rush in like we did before.
President Obama says we have the finest military in the world, First Lady Obama highlights breast cancer awareness to the girls. Obama signed an emergency declaration for the H1N1 Flu, The first family has taken their vaccinations how about you? Volunteerism is the new U.S. patriotic crave, Get involved now, there's no telling how many lives you'll save. You know what's more beautiful than a healthy growing orchid? Take a long look at the first family's portrait.

Thank God for Obama by Barry Fletcher, October, 2009
Obama travels to Denmark for Olympic bid in Chicago As for Public Option heath-care, lawmakers say no Rep Alan Grayson says don't get sick until a bill is past, The Republican plan was for the sick and elderly to die fast. Senators ready bill to cut greenhouse gas. Bill Clinton says vast conspiracy is focusing on Obama's ass.
Carter says racism is behind the animosity. It's not health-care reform that's causing all of the hated anger and atrocity.
Partisan heat shows no sign of cooling as Mean Joe shouted to the President "You Lie" Someone should have escorted him out of the chamber then hit him in the face with a pie. More troops may be needed to win the war in Afghanistan. Oil keeps China from spearheading efforts to stop Iran, The Pres threatens severe sanctions if they don't put their missile testing in the can. Iran agrees to new talks with 6 global powers in advance Britain, China, Germany, the U.S. and France. Cheney is fear mangling about closing the Guantanamo Bay But no one is listening or cares about anything he has to say.
President Obama lectured the banksters on Wall Street about new reform. Bernanke suggest recession is over; retail booming, economy will soon be back to the norm.
The foot & knuckle dragging Neanderthal Republican crew Will be the first to take the free vaccine for the swine flu. |
President Obama Finally Takes a Break
September, 2009
After a long campaign and seven months in the white house,
He goes to Martha's Vineyard with family and spouse.
The Pres takes it to the greens at Farm Neck Golf Club,
He planed to keep mostly to himself and left the Vice to sub.
While parties' trade volleys on health-care reform,
He'll slow down his mind and try to live a life of the norm.
Meanwhile, Scottish Justice Secretary defends Libyan's release,
Obama hope there's no more trouble in Mass, with his friends and the police.
Housing development has taken a frightening detour,
While shares of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac continue to soar.
Auto industry braces for hangover after the CLUNKER party,
And whose idea was it to bring a gun to a town hall meeting smarty.
So this is how it feels when something BIG is about to get done,
I'm sure Obama has lived at that precipice ever since he decided to run.
Many have tried and failed to reform health-care over the past thirty years,
Now, let's leave it to super man the angel with wings for ears.
Let's honor the man who's most responsible for his political identity,
With a moment of silence for Senator Edward M. Kennedy. |
HEALTH CARE REFORM by Barry Fletcher August, 2009
As approval rating on health care insurance reform begin to fall, Polls show that most Americans think there’s a need for a system overhaul. Obama insists his health-care plan won’t add to our nation’s deficit, Despite the nonpartisan Congress Budget Office saying just the opposite. Obama has taken on a series of major problems during his young presidency. He’s had six long months in office, signed five golden bills, four prime-time press conferences, killed three Somali pirates, fighting two world wars, and Sotomayor is the partridge in a pair tree. The decades-long drive to reform health-care is largely resting on his ability to quell revolts among Democratic brethrens. He’s swimming up stream as difficult as that may seem he’ll get by with a little help from his blue-dog friends. Who’s footing the bill; the rich, insurance companies or the government taxpayers? Obama’s proposals were endorsed by the doctors and nurses associations for all you naysayers. The bill extracts savings by targeting medical errors, administrative wastes and unnecessary duplications. Money that would be reallocated to cover many of the 47 million uninsured in this nation. The objective is to improve care and lower the cost before you walk through your doctor’s door. We are closer to health-care reform than ever before. The president knows the day for national health-care is near, And he wants to sign a bill by the end of this year. |
Mrs. Florence Audrey Fletcher A Final Tribute by Barry We've gathered here today to get through this thing we call life, Mother Fletcher's life, never ill, always happy, we never wanted to see her in pain. I know we are all deeply saddened by her loss, but I see it as heavens' gain. The sweetest lady you'll ever find, loving, caring, friendly and kind. Everyone has a weakness in life, her love just happened to be mine. Mom is more than just a name we call every day, She is more than an excuse to get our way. Mom is someone so much more than this small word can show. Mom is a friend and parent that you'll love more than you know. I told my mom I loved her, before I let her go. It's hard to believe she's gone; the kindest person I've ever met. I looked up and asked God why, He said heaven doesn't have enough Angels yet. The lasting memories of her are forever etched in my heart, I'm going to celebrate her life, I guess now is a good time to start. Don't grieve too long for my mother, for now she's free. She is following the path God laid, for us all to see. Incarnation gave God her number, and then she heard Him call, He said no more suffering, pain or fear; she took his hand and left it all, I wish I knew the words; I wish I knew the way. to ease your hurt a little and cheer your heart today. Lift up your spirit, live your best life, in your time and space. We can tell how you're feeling; its showing all over your face, You all give the Fletcher Family solace, just knowing that you care. We only get one mother, for the whole world to share. This won't be easy, seeing her for the last time giving our final goodbyes, But, I promise to be strong, as I give it a try. It's just not often you'll find someone so gentle and kind, And I'd rather live in her world than to live without her in mine. Remember, life is like a coin, even if it weighs an ounce, You can spend it any way you wish, but you can only spend it once. I would like to thank each and every one of you for the love you've shown, Our mother left us in the hands of God ... and all her children are grown. She never lives long enough if its your mama. She was born in 1929 in the midst of hard times and racial drama. However, she still lived long enough to vote for President Obama!

Obamas' Fights, Sights and Plights (June '09) By Barry Fletcher I've got sunshine on a cloudy Memorial day, With all my heart, I honor the troops in the month of May. The weather forced the space shuttle to land in California, Flu vaccine won't be ready until next fall, let me warn-ya. South Korean President jump to his death from a cliff, North Korea nuclear test triggered an international riff. Tricky Dick Cheney debated Obama on national security. Did the groundhog see his shadow, he rose from obscurity? Cheney says current policies put more Americans at risk, Obama says Bush can't fight terrorism with his fist. Cheney accused the President of "phony moralizing", Hardened terrorists need waterboarding not baptizing. Obama said I couldn't disagree with you more, Cheney ask, what in the hell did they come here for. Newt, Rush, Dick - the three stooges of the GOP, Want to stick it to Colin, if he's still in the party. Chairman Mikey will try it ... he has buns of Steele, Republicans spiraled down to 22 percent, so let's get real. Do you oppose the first Latina Supreme Court nominee to date? When Sotomayors has given Hispanics cause to celebrate? It wasn't a good month for Proposition 8, If the stooges want to get married they'll just have to wait! |
One Hundred Days in Office (May '09) On Jan 20th Millions flocked to DC to witness the Inauguration, The greatest defining moment of this nation Just in office for the third day, President Obama ordered the shut-down of Guantanamo Bay. Still basking in the glory from what I just saw, On the 29th the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was signed into law. Feb 3rd celebrating Black History/Obama with spirits in my cup, Turn on NBC news and heard him say, “I screwed up!” His nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services took his name out of contention, His name is Tom Daschle … just thought I should mention. Feb 12th brings even more of the same political tricks … Senator Judd Gregg citing “irresolvable conflicts” Feb 17th Obama signs a $787 billion economic recovery bill Feb 24th he gives an address to a joint session of congress on the hill. Feb 27th Obama draws a finish line for the Iraq War. Mar 9th Obama signs an executive order reversing limits on using federal dollars for stem-cell research that Bush was against before. Mar 18th Obama called the AIG executive bonus scandal “Outrageous” Mar 25th second prime-time press conference, “recovery in stages” Mar 26th virtual town hall meeting at the white house with the man, Mar 27th new comprehensive plan, 4,000 troops into Afghanistan. Mar 30th marks government-control over the auto industry, the ouster of longtime GM CEO Rick Wagner Apr 2nd first international summit for the Pres and first lady, the Brits adored him and tagged-her. The G-20 summit was a success and a turning point in our pursuit of a global economic recovery plan. Apr 5th the transfer case of Air force Staff Sgt. Phillip Myers arrived in Delaware ending an 18 year ban. Apr 6 Obama tells Turkey: U.S. not at war with Islam, making his first visit to a Muslim Nation. Apr 7th Pres Obama arrives unannounced in Iraq surprising the troops with a special occasion. Apr 9th Obama seeks $83 billion for the Iraq, Afghan wars, the cost of war almost $1 trillion since 9/11. Apr 14th the debut of the first dog, Michelle thinks he’s from hell but Sasha & Malia think he’s from heaven. He’s a hyper allergenic Portuguese water dog name Bo. He’s a crazy, fluffy gift from the Kennedy’s that doesn’t shed hair however, he’s always on the go … now you know. On days 79-83 four Somali pirates seized a US cargo ship, Navy Special Force killed three, freed the captain and brought one Somali back from the trip. Apr 18th Obama traveled south for the Summit of the Americas, to give Cuban President Raul Castro’s proposal a new look. Venezuela's Pres hugo Chavez took advantage of the opportunity to present President Obama with a book. Apr 22nd came as a surprise like the President didn’t have enough to do; U.S. was confronter with its first cases of Swine Flu. On the 99th day in Washington DC, things are changing around, can’t you see, Sen. Arlen Specter jumped the fence on the GOP. The Pres gets a good grade for what he has accomplished and all his plans, I think I’ll take his advice, and wash my hands. I’m so proud of that brother-man … don’t know what to do, But I’ll only give him a fist bump …ain’t trying catch that flu. Barryfletcher.com |
