OTELIA SIMON - Hair Stylist and Make-Up Artist Over 29 Years!
Otelia believes in bringing out the natural beauty of her clients. From photo shoots to commercial sets and theatre, to individual make-up sessions, Otelia creates individual looks for the celebrity and unforgettable moments for the everyday. She believes that make-up is applied for the purpose of improving appearance, emphasizing good facial features, and minimizing defects. "The first thing I want to see when I look at a photograph of a model or client is radiance, as well as style. My style is very detailed and blended. Ultimately, the appearance of beauty can be achieved by coordinating make-up, hair and wardrobe to complement the total look."
Otelia's professional career began with a contract doing hair and make-up for a gospel group touring several countries including Europe, Rome and West Africa. During the tour, she was asked to stay on and conduct workshops on hair and make-up techniques in Nigeria. After returning to the United States, she began working with a group of gospel recording artists as a hair stylist and make-up artist for their tour of Italy.
With over 25 years experience, Otelia has a diverse background in the broadcast industry working with commercial groups such as the American Red Cross and Studio-3-South, and documentary work with Eyes Haven't Seen...Productions. As a seasoned professional, her expertise in hair, make-up and television has created vast opportunities for her to work with recording artists such as Yolanda Adams, Vicki Winans, Cee Cee Winans and Grammy Award winner Fred Hammond. This experience also afforded her the privilege to work on the set of Princess Diana's last media coverage here in the United States.
Airbrushing has become one of Otelia's latest calling cards within the industry, using Diniar airbrush techniques. In this specialized area of make-up application, where make-up is airbrushed onto the face without the use of sponges or brushes, Otelia creates beautiful skin tones using colors that accentuate her clients, without being distracting.
Although her work schedule dictates much of her time, Otelia serves as a consultant for not-for-profit organizations that focus on the educational and social development of young men and women through the arts. She also teaches television production skills through ECTV at Evangel Cathedral in Maryland.
Otelia graduated from Monique's Institute of Cosmetology in the District of Columbia, then from Dudley Cosmetology University in Kernersville, N.C., where she studied multicultural skin care, advanced make-up artistry, and techniques for photos and television.
